Not sure what is is today, as those great philosophers, Moe, Larry and Curly once said, I feel like the Sword of Damocles is hanging over my head. It starts with the backstabbin republicans signing onto what amounts to a 7 trillion dollar funding bill fully funding all of the democrats attacks on political opponents and a massive growth in the fbi and irs. It does overflow into religion who for years have let us down. Today it seems when we needed these people the most they helped us the least, in fact they have completed the true definition of Judas. Thank you, I have never heard of him. This was a good song and an interesting video. That album is now in my playlist, going to have to spend some time with it. Growing up in the rust belt of Appalachia I can certainly relate to this. Many of our small towns have become a choice between drugs or Jesus. Oh, and I also share your affinity for Alison Krauss. My favorite is "I'll Fly Away".

Allison Krauss is a favorite of mine too. I'm a southener and, while things have changed, there are still a lot of down to hearth people who love the Land and that's great to witness and return to. "We've got a church on every corner, So why does heaven feel so far away" - great lyrics, sad, but in this Divide brought forth by the plandemic, soul's have either been sucked out or brought back to life in a fire storm of freedom.

Country music is at its best when it has something to say; that's why so much of the modern 'Bro Country' is despised outside of the genre's immediate fans. Singing about chicks and trucks - with formulaic music - goes stale pretty quick.

This... has something to say. Thanks for sharing it 🫡

Thanks Chris. Great song I'm checking this guy out soon.

Im a fan of a small amount of country, only a few artists and songs like many here have said.

If you haven't heard Chris Stapleton by now, check him out. Start w "Parachutes" and "Broken Halos".

I am one of those with a stated aversion to country music as a genre... except Cash, of course. An exception is "Rich Men North of Richmond" - it's just an incredibly powerful song. This one is now another exception. I don't find it overtly country. The original has a great sound, in addition to a solid message, but that acoustic version is greatness.

One of the things I was first struck by after moving to FL is the fact that there really is a church on every corner. (In NY, there's a bar on every corner.) In strange juxtaposition, I have also never seen so many strip clubs in my life as I have here. Still not sure what that's about, but the only thing this city has more of than strip clubs is churches. It remains extremely weird to me.

Anyway, great commentary and great song. Thanks for sharing!

I live in the country in California where the vibe is “country”. The Bakersfield sound. Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Buck Owens and The Buckaroos, Wynn Stewart to name a few. The Buckaroos still play today. Rudy Parris, a Buckaroo continues the tradition today. I just saw him at the casino the other night. I grew up with this sound all around me but my Dad was a big band enthusiast and a lover of classical and my Mother loved Burt Bacharach and more of the classic pop sound. So that was the sandwich play through our household. I grew up and learn to love all kinds of music. Country is certainly not my favorite but when country is good it’s some of the best music you can listen to.

Randy is a musician and songwriter who focuses mostly on pop and nostalgia sound. His mother also listened to Burt Bacharach who has heavily his work. But that said he has written two amazing country western songs, and I can’t wait until they are produced and played. I think Rudy is going yo do one of them.

Thank you so much for suggesting Dan Tyminski, I look forward to listening to his bluegrass!

Music is a strong indicator of social trends. Artists see the culture in advance of the rest of the world and always have. My son is a musician. With his wife, they make up a band called The Grid Pickers and bill themselves as “alternate bluegrass”. The last album they had was Cheap Kazoos and Bad Tatoos. You can find them on Apple Music.

Inauthentic, tacky, uninspired and repetitive “country” is what most people who don’t like country...don’t like about country. Country is supposed to be visceral even when lighthearted, and the pop version of country we get now is like a first-gen Terminator: easy to spot with their fake rubber skins and that they don’t bleed when you cut ‘em.

I’ve been to many concerts by acts of many genres, some with oddball subcultures (raves, punk, Grateful Dead) and others more mainstream, and by far my worst experience at live shows was at country shows. Some weird miasma of insincerity and trashiness hangs in the air. There were brawls. The women dressed trashy on purpose and acted accordingly. The men all had that walk-hard bravado and tested all and sundry. As far as social rituals go, it was a case study in how people blow off steam by, and this is the only way I can think to put it, LARPing some fantasy as an oppressed working class country boy forced to live in the city...

Or maybe that’s what we all really are, and we need the reminder of our primal nature now and then. Truly our masters are generous, to provide for our needs this way.

I love Alison Krause and Union Station. I shared this solo work with someone I know will appreciate it. Kyminski is authentic.
