I support the notion of trying and trying again, of course, please do not misunderstand me. Maybe it takes those of us that are no stranger to war to bring everyone down to ground. I had this experience at an impressionable age. Let us not trouble ourselves with the details. Please, as you were saying...
Sure. My only point was that even when we set out to remain positive, e might stumble and fall. Perhaps fall into negativity or old patterns. So we should remember, when that happens, to try try again, to reclaim the positive approach.
I'm sorry, I must not be making myself clear. My primary concern is with the collective global consciousness. We must live what we preach, or risk having what we say, to be regarded as anecdotal.
Your description of the game to win back the helmet reminded me of a Disney cartoon I saw decades ago. The good wizard was battling with the bad witch and they kept shape shifting to avoid being caught by the other. Suddenly the witch catches the wizard, so the wizard turns into a germ, which the witch has “caught.” In the final scene the witch is suffering and sniffling, bleary-eyed, and the wizard is prescribing bed rest. 😁
Perhaps Pandora is the archtypal character that brings hope into the world, quite by change, I know, but her curiosity provided the catalyst. Hope was in the form of a butterfly. It seems the small things are what shows up in these stories. They're the ones that win the day. Small changes, small deeds, small bits of joy passed along to others. Hope spreads if allowed.
Perhaps it even spreads if it is not allowed…or it least it can. Hope can exist anywhere in anyone at any time—though evil people or circumstances can make it much harder to feel it.
I would have to agree! If our attention to a thing is enough to grow it into being (and I truly believe it is) then our biggest responsibility is to be careful and choosy about where we put our focus. ✨❤️
I'm 76 but I still have lots of hope. I've read a lot of history and human nature never changes. I expect THEY (The Hierarchy Exploiting You) will end up eating each other.
Yeah, I watched it a few months ago with my wife. She started without me—in fact, I did not even know a TV version was out. She told me about it and I said, "Hey, was there some scene where he did this battle and won at the end by turning into hope?" Then I explained to her that I read it a quarter century ago!
I played catch up and then we watched the last couple of episodes together. Not bad. And the actor they cast as Dream was just how I pictured him.
Nice! I also read a few of the comics over a decade before the show came out. I thought it was an interesting show - but not quite my type, maybe a bit too dark for me.
You wanna talk dark? My wife and I watched "As Above, So Below" last night for our last scary thing (pausing to give candy as needed). Very disturbing…especially if one does not like tight spaces.
Halfway through, I smelled a rat and stopped watching. My wife kept watching, but I walked away and went to my office and looked it up.
Sure enough, the writer is a raging left-wing watermelon for whom environmental eschatology is a religion. So of course the movie was written to be completely hopeless and no-win, with humanity cast as either monsters or cowering victims. Disgusting and pathetic. That movie was a war crime.
(And sure enough, my wife confirmed that it did not get any better after I left.)
I did see it - had no idea the writer was a raging left-wing ideologue, but I do remember feeling pretty depressed after watching it! That explains it.
Thank you. Well said and it is good to be reminded of the natural tendency to look for things to worry about. I love the story of hope at the end. So beautiful. Message received in a memorable way and I didn’t have to read the graphic novel.
And to you, and thank you for sharing these thoughts.
I was just talking with my wife five minutes ago on a very related topic. She has been using intermittent fasting to lose a little weight (and it has worked very well), but she just said that she needed to break her fast early today because her brain is working so hard at work—she needs the calories right now. And I said, "You have to be able to vary the pattern once in a while, or you're in prison."
It seems to me that that is similar to what you are saying here. It is only procrastination if you do it tomorrow and the next day and the next day. Today, you're just taking a break. Varying the pattern. It's a good thing.
We should all remain positive. Can I get cream with that, to go?
Yep, with a whipped topping of If-At-First-You-Don't-Succeed-Try-Try-Again.

You are right, but I'm unsure how much brevity you attach to your words.
I don't know what you mean.

I wonder if this is one of those tales that goes way, way back, and both Disney and Neil Gaiman were simply referencing an ancient archetype.

True. It's those evil people who won't allow it. They "beat" it out of others, especially children, while trying to "raise" them.
Lots of work to be done!
The version where the good guy morphs into hope is more hopeful ;-)
From Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse. An encouraging message that points to HOPE.

Really great message! Truth be told, I have been feeling a little happier every day. Knowing the truth is scary, but also very liberating.

Indeed.
It can also be hard to overcome bad patterns, but we must try.
It’s not easy. But what else is life for? 🐛➡️🦋
Right!
No one promised it would be easy. Perhaps it should not be. Perhaps the struggle is what we are here for.
We agree on this.

Agreed, and kudos to you!
So how is it that I have made it to this age without hearing the acronym "The Hierarchy Exploiting You"? That's great :-)
I wish I could take credit, but I approbriated it from the book 180° by Fergus O'Connor Greenwood. Unlearn the lies you've been taught to believe.
I absolutely cringe when someone calls them the elite. They are anything and everything but the cream of the crop.
The have elite-level skills at doing evil!
Have you seen the TV rendition of that Sandman scene? It's pretty good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKd84p1sc0

Oh gosh, I saw that movie years ago and still remember it. That and Cube are one of the few movies I really regret seeing.
Did you see "The Road" with Viggo Mortensen?
Halfway through, I smelled a rat and stopped watching. My wife kept watching, but I walked away and went to my office and looked it up.
