A while back you were talking about revolution and that we didn't need it to be bloody. But, for the last 200 hundred years governments have murdered more people than all the revolutions combined in history. It's almost like they love it.

Is it the nature of man to murder his fellow humans? No. But it is the nature of most of those who take positions in government, even in the supposedly tame US government. Suppose we knew everything in history exactly as it happened for the last 5,000 years. Would it make a difference? No...human nature never changes because mankind is psychologically asleep for his entire existence on earth. And the past is long gone.

They certainly do DESERVE to be overthrown, and more. The question I ponder is how that will be accomplished most effectively. And the conclusion I keep coming back to is that whatever they may deserve, initiating a bloody revolution will not produce the best results.

I'm intrigued that Big Brother is basically a psychopath - meaning he has a different & limited emotional range compared to the norm. And that psychopathic emotional range (derive enjoyment from power & controlling others, deceit as a game, inflicting pain, killing, etc.) is normalized as what most of us seek. And that ethic is controlling/running the world more or less.

I'm fascinated too at how (or if) the Trump Team will overcome this psychopathic conditioning. Frankly, it seems unlikely. But it's by far the best shot we're ever likely to see. Putin's RF is another example. It's a transformed Russia that makes BRICS so appealing outside NATO (Axis?). Milei's Argentina & also El Salvador are other success stories at overcoming the norm of psychopaths in power.

Expand full comment

The problem as I see it is that power systems attract psychopaths, and since we cannot be rid of psychopaths (it is a neurological condition), then we must be rid of power systems.

(But then, I suppose it was rather predictable that I would say such a thing :-)

Indeed, it's within our Declorations of Independence that We The People must depose tyranny and tyrannical government. It is the duty of Americans. Full stop.

Oh I know it can happen here. We are already living it in collectivist Chinada. I find it endlessly forehead-slapping hilarious that by "diversity" they actually mean boring ass homogeny.

Yep. Watching Aaron Russo's doc From Freedom to Fascism in 2006 prepared me for today. I'd hate to be someone who has no idea what's going on and is riding the pendulum swing blindly.

Attempting to erase people from history isn't a modern invention. Romans practiced damnatio memoriae left and right (although it's somewhat unclear how well it worked), and similar practices have likely been around since Ancient Mesopotamia.

It's impossible to tell their efficiency (there's a long running joke that it wasn't Herostratus who destroyed the temple of Artemis but a wholly different guy whose name has been successfully forgotten) but it's probably less than 50%.

Yeah, the lesson of 1984 was definitely that we should trust the government, as mentioned by one of the best politicians who only didn't rise to power because she was a woman.

“This is what happens in George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, when a torturer holds up four fingers and delivers electric shocks until his prisoner sees five fingers as ordered. The goal is to make you question logic and reason and to sow mistrust towards exactly the people we need to rely on: our leaders, the press, experts who seek to guide public policy based on evidence, ourselves."

It'd be pretty amusing for someone to rewrite those dystopian novels and show the absurdity of applying statist apologia to them. Pretty sure Clarisse McClellan was the villain in Fahrenheit 451... ;D

"Probably had to for self-preservation"

—Who would have harmed her for saying otherwise?

Expand full comment

Yeah, it was a bit of a facetious comment. More in that it serves someone's self-interest to miss an unflattering point (like taking a back-handed compliment as a true compliment).

But to elaborate on a different note:

Self-preservation in terms of credibility, as in there's always something to gain by framing the discourse in terms of "safe establishment" vs. dangerous disruption. The benefit is that Trump can then play the role of a lone maverick, coasting on rhetoric about the deep state (in the sense that appointing RFK and Gabbard would quell the problem).

I don't think the candidates truly clash* in terms of meaningful (to their interests) ideology... but on goes the merry-go-round, as people try to vote their way out of problems that hadn't arisen from voting in the first place!

*This isn't to say that there aren't differences at all. Of course things like compelled vaccination and other COVID draconian measures could be attributed more to the DNC, but even Trump took pride in Operation Warp Speed. It seems to me as though someone with political power will pay lip-service to an ideal, while stabbing it in the back.

Here's a great take on public education from one of my favorite Stacks:

"What is the commonality between critical race theory, the transgender agenda and the nightmarish convention of the state controlling how children should think and behave? They all find their origins in Prussia."

Isn't the average person who stands at Football games giving honor to mercenaries that run around the world and murder innocent people who have never committed any violence against any of us worshipping Big Brother? What would have happened if the Vietnam war had been stopped because those that were drafted would have had enough COURAGE to say I'm not going and be willing to defend their right to abstain from murder? What would have happened if enough people had the COURAGE to stand with a neighbor who was willing to refuse to pay RENT to the local taxing authorities on a home he has paid for free and clear with his blood, sweat and tears? What would happen if people would have the COURAGE to be willing to lay down their very lives if the situation arose in public where a crazed person went on a rampage and they were willing to be trained and be willing to make the effort to stop the shooter by any means necessary? SO WHAT IF YOU DIE in the process. I promise you, you will DIE anyway. And years from now would you trade a single minute if you could have stopped a person who was committing some atrocity like that and YOU DIDN'T? As you were lying in your dying bed thinking back?

What if more people had the COURAGE and realized as a Christian that hiding down in their lamb like heart was a LION ready to come out and manifest if they only asked the one dwelling in them to do so? WHAT IF...the words from a recent hit song were put to practice by EVERYONE who claims to be rooted in the word of God? CAUSE YOU'VE GOT A LION INSIDE THOSE LUNGS, GET UP AND PRAISE THE LORD! Well why not get up and stand in the face of TYRANNY and FIGHT for what is right? We all live on BORROWED TIME. We don't know from one minute to the next how much longer we will be exhaling. We could be killed in a car accident or many other calamities that happen every day. Why not leave behind a life full of CARING and LOVING for your fellow man?

Why not take the whole core of what the Scripture teaches and bring it down to the simple basic two lines of reality that if we were to LIVE them the world would manifest the KINGDOM through that? Why do we support the murder of innocents in other lands? Why are we willing stand and support a military that is more than willing to kill YOU if they were given the order ...JUST LIKE KING GEORGE'S MEN WERE WILLING TO KILL THE COLONISTS so many years ago. WHEN WILL BE EVER LEARN? Just imagine if all of human kind would simply LOVE THEIR CREATOR WITH ALL OF THEIR HEART, MIND, BODY and SOUL and love their neighbor as themselves. Oh wait...the hard part is the end. So many hate themselves. They look inside and see depravity in their thoughts, depravity in their actions and due to the tiny spark of the opposite that lives within them too...they won't love themselves making it easier to kill, steal, murder, rob, rape, and lie to get through life. If that tiny spark would just ignite the POWER of the TRUTH of WHO we are in the plan of life...maybe, just maybe they could turn away from all the evil that rules them that causes the dislike of themselves and learn to LOVE THEIR NEIGHBOR at that time. What do you think? I'm retired so I can sit here and ramble on, and only hope that someone, anyone, if only one were to read this and have that conviction, they would become who the ruler of the universe wants them to be...A LION! Anyone who truly knows me, knows why I am COURAGEOUSLION.US And that anyone that has internet access the world over can go to that address that the Almighty led me to use and find me ROARING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS! REIGN YAHSHUA REIGN!!!.

Excellent statement.

I could swear I wrote a whole thing on the subject you are discussing in your first paragraph, but I cannot find it now. Anyways, it's the same idea. It's the reason why four guys with guns can keep a thousand of us prisoner in a camp yard. We could overwhelm them, but it would cost a bunch of lives and no one wants to be the ones to go. If we were a different type of species—the kind that will never allow ourselves to be captured—things would be different.

Twerking in from of toddlers does not harm them and since the fundamental human right is to do anything which is not harmful, twerking in front of toddlers is in fact a human right. Whether they have the right to twerk in from of your toddlers depends on whether the rules on twerking in front of toddlers are equally applied to everyone and for other justifiable reasons.

Expand full comment

First, we do not know what twerking in front of toddlers might do to them. It might have psychosexual impacts that manifest later in life, but whose original cause is never known.

But setting that aside…it also does not harm a child (other than the initial pain) to get an ear pierced. But strangers are not allowed to do that to children. They also are not allowed to take them to Disney World. Or cut their hair. The reason is that parents hold children's right of consent in proxy until they reach an age in which they can enjoy full communion with their own natural rights.
