Love It or Meme It
"Oppression isn't oppression if you can leave."
Gavin Mounsey posted this excellent meme yesterday:
Like any good meme, it entirely speaks for itself, and yet you could also write a book about each of its points.
We recently talked a bit about the absurdity of the “you can always move” argument. And the second frame is certainly related to this popular piece: The Day I Forced My Wife to Marry Me. However, it’s #MemeMonday, when we ease into the week with some good pro-freedom/anti-statism memes…so I will stop with the preamble.
Gavin mentioned that the meme was a capture from Etienne de la Boetie2’s book, which sparked me to go looking for the original. Google was predictably no help, so I checked Yandex.com and found a whole treasure trove of good ones!
