"But…but…but everyone knows that's just not how it's done" for #MemeMonday
Here in 2024, democracy is a power-word whose mere invocation can silence all debate…
It is a KnownFact™ that it is the ultimate evolution in human governance.
It is a KnownFact™ that it makes mankind the freest it can possibly be.
It is a KnownFact™ that voting = consent.
It is a KnownFact™ that it is good to use force to “make the world safe for democracy.”
It is a KnownFact™ that to be “anti-democratic” is to be truly evil.
Any suggestion that democracy is not the be-all-and-end-all of human governance is dismissed out of hand.
Some react with disdain and condescension. Silly child—you just don’t understand.
Some react with slavering rage.
Here in the United States, some respond derisively that “this is a constitutional republic, not a democracy.”
(Once again, for those in the back… A constitutional republic is a form of indirect democracy, which is a subset of democracy. To claim otherwise is a category error. And to claim that a constitutional republic does not suffer from the same failings as all the others perpetuates a mythological delusion and denies the evidence before our eyes. A pure democracy dies faster than a republic, but they both inevitably die.)
Everyone knows that our system is the only system that can possibly work. (Kind of like “everyone” knew that masking, lockdowns, and vaccines “stop the spread.”)
Now, let’s wind the clock back to the 17th century…
A few brave souls are beginning to challenge the notion that monarchy is the be-all-and-end-all system of human political organization. Algernon Sidney is executed. The Levellers are executed. John Locke writes in secret.
These men were not just at risk from the powers that be. They were also at risk from the normies of their day…
The invention of the printing press in Europe was starting to change things, spreading new ideas to an ever-growing number. But still, for most people, it was a KnownFact™
That kings had a natural right to rule…
That there were fixed classes of highborn and lowborn…
That this is the way we do things because this is the way we do things.
And what was it that the few mavericks of the day were suggesting we try instead of monarchy?
Democracy.
Their ideas laid the groundwork for the systems we have today.
Before them, monarchy was unquestionable and discussion of democracy was crazy-talk or treason. Today, democracy is unquestionable and alternatives are crazy-talk or treason.
Are you starting to get it?
Do you really want to be in the camp of people who insist that the way we do things is the way we do things because this is the way we do things?
Or do you want to punch your inner normie and get on with the business of evolving to the next level?
Getting these messages out is a job for me, and I need your help to continue doing it. Keep the fires burning by buying me the occasional cup of coffee! (Or whiskey or cider. I’m easy.)
Since when has there ever been a true democracy? The citizen still remains the slave as government controls all. Does the citizen ever get a true vote on how he is governed? Maybe he gets to choose his leaders, but not how they choose to lead which is through endless laws, rules, regulations and strangulations.
One breaks free when he discovers the illusion of government. That is that it exists with the belief that we cannot exist without it. Total BS.
The word democracy is derived from the Greek root word daemon, or demon. 👿
