My brother OD’d twice. The second time he was found dead in a cold unheated apartment in Gardner Ma. I know I mentioned this before, but he was an airborne ranger veteran, a prison guard for 20 years in Gardner, and would help anyone almost to a fault. He was pulled off a 12 foot wall by his German shepherd at work and injured his back, 2 crushed discs. He was the strongest toughest guy I knew, but he wasn’t strong enough for the oxycodone and believe it or not the morphine his doctor was giving him for years unknown to me. When my sister and I found out what they were giving him, my sister called the doctor and the doc took him off of the pain meds. Well I’m not 100% positive but that set my brother on a journey to his death. I remember we got him into ANOTHER drug rehab, Westwood Lodge. He was a big guy and had a nice way about him. When it came to the question of his pain medication his whole persona changed. His eyes and affect changed in a very stern threatening way. He was going to get his oxy’s or someone was going to physically pay. I know I wasn’t going to be the one to stop him getting his fix. The mind can certainly be stronger than the body. It seems the medical establishment many times sets situations in motion without any idea of the final outcome as horrific as they may be. IMO they killed my brother.

I’m not sure what it is about human beings, but we all have these self destructive tendencies of some sort in each one of us. I’m by no means a psychologist but I’ve seen time after time people destroy their own lives with destructive impulses wether it be eating junk food and becoming obese, drinking alcohol (poisoning the body), smoking cigarettes (even after lung cancer surgery), to doing drugs overdosing and then doing it again and dying. Two of these are examples of people in my own immediate family. Once in a while my wife will say could you pick up a whopper burger (my uncle used to call it that) and I will,. After, we feel like shit for a night and 1/2 the next day. I’m not exactly sure what it is about the human being that allows ourselves to poison our own body? I guess it has something to do with free will. One other odd thought is I wouldn’t give up the right to have the freedom to choose these free will choices without a drag down fight.
